I've written earlier about the concern of some Catholics about Barack Obama being awarded an honorary degree from Notre Dame.
My aunt sent me this essay by Richard McBrien who compares this with President Bush's visit and honorary degree in 2001.

Very nicely put. I have never understood how you can be anti-abortion (or a proponent of a "culture" of life) and throw the switch on so many executions. If you feel that all humans have a right to live, then so be it. One you start to qualify your stance with "but" you leave the door open to lots of bad stuff. But what do I know - I am pro-choice and anti-death penalty.
