As we always do this time of year, we had friends and family over to build gingerbread houses. Some of them were so focused it looks like they even tried to build them to code.

I can smell the sugar from here! Does your family bake all the house components (walls, roofs, etc.) before the party? (BTW I didn't spot a single glue gun in the photos--wow.)
No glue guns. We bake the house parts ourselves and construct the houses beforehand. All house pieces and decorations were put together with "glue" made from beaten egg whites, cream of tartar, and pounds of powdered sugar--a sweet and edible concoction. It's not unusual to catch one of the kids squirting a glop of it into their mouth. The "glue" sets like cement. Everything except the cardboard platter is edible, but you'd better have some really good teeth.
