I don't know if you know, but Spice is a brand name for a synthetic cannabinoid. It has effects similar to cannabis, but is legal in most states. Yet another case of laws struggling to catch up with technology.
I really liked the worms and thought that the book series (full disclosure - I only made it through the first book) did not spend enough time on them.
But perhaps the worms played a larger part in the later parts of the saga.
