Universal health care is achievable and affordable but our political leaders refuse to even mention it let alone pursue it. In the meantime, they proclaim the benefits of the free market solution that gets to pick and choose to maximize profit. Imagine the government decided that law and order was not its function but should be that of the free market. You'd get to buy your protection and investigators as the market dictated. The people who have the least wealth to lose would be priced out of the market because what they have isn't profitable to protect.
